In our next couple of blog posts, we’d like to cover the topic of powering your electronic devices. There are a lot of angles we could come from on this topic, but the two that we’re thinking of for now are (1) using power strips, and (2) keeping your devices safe from power surges. For now, let’s talk about three “don’ts” of using power strips.

  1. Don’t daisy-chain them! Plugging a power strip into another power strip is a very bad idea, and can be a fire hazard.
  2. Don’t plug high-voltage appliances into them. Things like refrigerators, space heaters, and microwaves can easily overpower a typical power strip.
  3. Don’t assume your power strip is a surge protector. We’ll talk more about surge protection in our next post, but when it comes to power strips, it’s important to note that not all of them come with surge protection. Double-check your power strip before you rely on it!
